Genetic Non-discrimination

The Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act (GINA) is proposed legislation that would prevent discrimination in health insurance and employment based on the results of genetic testing.  It would allow non-symptomatic individuals to obtain testing without worry about the repercussions of a positive result on their health coverage and employment status. The bill has been introduced in the 108th, 109th, and now the 110th Congress. We will be putting weekly updates on the status of the bill on this page.  We encourage you to visit the Coalition for Genetic Fairness website at www.geneticfairness.org to learn more about the bill and what you can do to help it become law.

To see the text of GINA, visit http://thomas.loc.gov/home/c110query.html and type "Genetic" into the Search box. The first two items in the results list are the House and Senate bills.
