How We Use Your Donations
Your donations enable us to continue our current programs
and expand these to achieve our mission. In a typical year,
your donations support:
-
the accurate, up-to-date information and patient/family
support provided through our website, patient conferences,
peer support program, brochures, and toll-free number.
- the physician education provided through our Neurology
Residents’ Award and our exhibits at medical conferences.
- the research efforts aimed at finding a permanent cure for
cavernous angioma through our DNA/Tissue Bank, Patient
Registry, annual Scientific Workshops, referrals and
assistance to major studies, and work with the National
Institute of Health and Congress.
How to Make a Direct Donation
Send donations through the mail to:
Angioma Alliance
142 W. York Street
Suite 708
Norfolk, VA 23510-2015
USA
We can accept checks, money orders, and Visa or Mastercard
donations. For credit card donations, please include your
card number, the card expiration date, the amount of your
donation, and your billing address.
Or donate online using our Paypal connection.
Paypal's low cost to us means that more of your contribution
can go directly toward the work of Angioma Alliance.
We are a non-profit 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. All
contributions are tax deductible.
Each donation of $10 or more will come with a CCM lapel pin
thank you gift. Like the ribbons associated with other
illnesses, our “little red guy” pin is a wonderful way to
increase awareness of cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM),
our little known illness. Increasing public awareness can
go a long way toward increasing research funding and
improving the quality of life we all lead. Each pin comes
with cavernous angioma business-size information cards that
can be handed to anyone who might have questions.
Estate Planning
As you are working with your estate planning professional,
please consider including Angioma Alliance in your will.

Donating Stocks and Mutual Fund Shares
It is possible to transfer ownership of equities or mutual
fund shares directly to Angioma Alliance. If you choose to
do this, you will not have to pay capital gains tax on the
increase in value of your shares. You will also receive a
charitable deduction for the full amount of the donation at
the time of the transfer. Please ask your investment advisor
or tax consultant for details.
Matching Gifts
Many employers have matching gift programs that allow you to
increase your donation. Some employers require a charity be
registered as a recipient with them. Please check with your
employer’s appropriate department (payroll or human
resources, typically) to see if a registration is needed and
if we are already registered. If not, please send us the
appropriate forms and we will take care of the rest.
Donating While Shopping or Selling Online
Angioma Alliance Marketplace
Angioma Alliance offers a variety of awareness and
educational items for purchase either online or by mail. The
awareness items you find in the
Angioma Alliance Product
Store not only help to support our work financially, but
also help to increase public understanding of this illness.
The Angioma Alliance
Bookstore provides a link to online
sellers that offer books of interest to our members; some of
these donate a percent of their sales to us.
Igive.com
www.igive.com is a website that serves as a portal to
hundreds of retail sites and gives us money every time you
buy from one of them. The first time you visit igive.com,
please register and list Angioma Alliance as your charity.
Then, every time you shop, go to igive.com first to get to
the store you want. A percentage of what you buy will be
sent to us at no additional cost to you.
It's that easy. We've raised over $1000 through igive.com -
it's a great way for you and your friends and family to help
everyone with cavernous angiomas.
GoodSearch.com and GoodShop
The search engine
www.goodsearch.com donates one cent to us
each time you search the internet from their website.
GoodSearch also has an associated shopping portal similar to
igive.com called GoodShop. This is a site to bookmark and
add to your Favorites.
Pampered Chef
Rachel Hart and her sister Shayna Dunn are donating their
proceeds from online Pampered Chef sales to Angioma
Alliance. Angioma Alliance will receive 20% of the sale
price of any item you buy. These are high quality kitchen
products that make cooking fun.
Please go to
www.pamperedchef.com to view the Pampered Chef
line of products, but DO NOT PLACE YOUR ORDER ONLINE. To
benefit Angioma Alliance, please contact Rachel at
rachel_hart10@live.com and she will give you ordering
instructions.
Ebay GivingWorks and MissionFish
A way for you to use Ebay to help Angioma Alliance is to
register as a seller with
MissionFish. This allows you to
designate a percentage of the sales price of items you sell
as a donation to Angioma Alliance (minimum is $5). You keep
the remaining percentage. Your donation through Ebay Giving
Works is entirely tax deductible.
Other Online Sales
If you are a sales representative for a business like
Pampered Chef and would like to donate proceeds from online
sales, please let us know and we will add your ordering
information to this page and post it on our Community Forum.
Involving Your Circle
Most of our individual donations come from family and
friends of our affected members. These loved ones understand
the importance of Angioma Alliance both as a support for
those who are currently affected and as a force working for
a better tomorrow through research and education. There are
a number of ways to encourage giving among your loved ones.
Birthdays and Special Occasions
A number of our members have asked loved ones to make a
donation to Angioma Alliance in lieu of giving birthday or
holiday gifts. When a donation is made to Angioma Alliance
listing an honoree, we make sure to inform the honoree and
list the gift in the Memorial and Honorarium Donations
section of our newsletter.
A Direct Appeal Letter to Family and Friends
If the work of Angioma Alliance has become meaningful to
you, we ask that you spread the word to your family and
friends. This can be done through a brief letter, perhaps
enclosed within a holiday card. We have developed a
template in Microsoft Word that you can modify. If you
need a different file type or a hard copy, please let us
know and we will send this on to you. We can also send you
donation return envelopes to include with your letter or
card. While this may feel uncomfortable, please understand
that family and friends are often feeling that they need to
help you in some way, but aren’t sure how – you are giving
them a simple and very powerful way to do so.
Memorials
It is common for many people to designate a charity for
memorial donations in lieu of flowers at the passing of a
loved one. If you choose Angioma Alliance as the charity, we
will list each donation in the Memorial Donors section of
our newsletter and send a letter notifying you of donations
made in your loved ones memory. This is a fitting and
meaningful way to remember a loved one.
Brunswick Brainy Bowling
In May, 2008, Brunswick Bowling will begin sponsoring
bowling tournaments to benefit Angioma Alliance. The first
event is being organized by Angioma Alliance fundraising
special events coordinator Anjoleen Baca and is being held
at five lanes in the Atlanta area. If this event is a
success, we will have a model for use at Brunswick Lanes
throughout the country. The events will be relatively simple
to put together – if you have Brunswick Recreation Centers
in your area (you can check at
http://www.bowlbrunswick.com/) and would like to be involved
in future events, please let us know.
Organizing a Special Event
We encourage members to host public fundraisers not just to
raise money, but also to raise awareness. Our members and
friends have hosted fundraisers including an adult Halloween
party, a bike-a-thon/silent auction/raffle, wine auctions, a
wine tasting party, a school district rummage sale, and a
benefit concert. Kids’ school fundraisers have included
selling lollipops, organizing a rock-a-thon (rocking chairs,
not music), and sponsoring a staff/teacher casual day. Your
imagination and energy are the only limits to what we can
do.
If you are planning a fundraiser, please let us know ahead
of time. Most states require that we register as a charity
before we are allowed to collect funds, and the registration
process can take a few months. Also, we need to work with
you to make sure that we have all gifts and donations
recorded properly for our financial records. Finally, we may
be able to make your job easier with our resources from past
fundraisers: give-away items, press releases, or forms, for
example.
See our newsletter for a list of upcoming special events.
Corporate Grants
Many corporations offer grants to non-profit organizations
and give preference to organizations that are important to
their employees. Please check with your or your spouse’s
Corporate Giving department to see if this is the case. Some
corporations also have associated grant-making Foundations.
A letter of support from an employee may help us as we apply
for these grants.
Gifts in Kind
At times, Angioma Alliance has need of equipment, printing,
or other items to support our work. When we have a need, we
will post it on our Community Forum and in our Newsletter.
The fair market value of the donated items is tax
deductible.
Also, if you hear of an upcoming auction or fundraiser being
held by another member on behalf of Angioma Alliance, please
feel free to support it with contributions you think may be
appropriate.
